Children’s Thoughts

What does Trianon mean to the children of the separated regions today? The answers from the foreign regions of the Carpathian Basin - Transylvania, Southern Region, Upper Region and Subcarpathia - can be read here thanks to the help of the Research Institute for National Strategy.

To be a Hungarian is a proud happiness.

Zselyke, 12
Transylvania

I think the separated regions should be given back, Slovakians should move upper and the Hungarians should stay.

Dániel, 15

Upper Region

In my opinion it is a very stupid thing that people of Hungarian origin were separated and put here and there without asking them about it.

Vivien, 13

Upper Region

The Hungarians in Slovakia are hated by the 90 percent of the Slovakians, but without Hungarians Slovakia would not exist. Slovakian Hungarians are looked down on in Hungary, too. It hurts.

Beáta, 15

Upper Region

This is my opinion about Trianon.

Dani, 17

Upper Region

I think the ideal solution would be to rearrange everything based on the earlier situation.

Vanesa, 16

Upper Region

There must have been a terrible storm somewhere and in the storm a nation was lost.

Ancsi, 15

Upper Region

In today’s Europe it is not a big deal, we understand each other in English.

Szabi, 16

Upper Region

We are moving to London soon, and everybody speaks English there.

Geri, 16

Upper Region

Hungarians stay Hungarians whether they live in Slovakia or in Ukraine or in Romania.

Márk, 15

Upper Region

It happened in Slovakia more times that I got comments for speaking in Hungarian. I would rather live in Hungary.

Vivien, 14

Upper Region

In the movie “The last samurai” there is a scene when the main character is asked if he takes it seriously that he can change his fate. I am often asked if I seriously believe in the rearranging of the borders. I always answer what Tom Cruise did: I don’t know but I do everything for it.

Krisztián, 18

Upper Region

They decided about us without us. This is not fair.

Kornél, 15

Upper Region

People judge each other, even if they are not responsible for anything. This is human stupidity.

Dávid, 14

Upper Region

It was rude that from one moment to the other Hungary turned into Czechoslovakia. And it is really disgusting from the Slovakians that they hate Hungarians.

Lajos, 14

Upper Region

It was a big change for both countries that Hungarians live in Slovakian territory, it can be experienced to present days that Slovakians look down on the Hungarians.

Gábor, 15

Upper Region

Trianon brought a big change for common people in that suddenly they became citizens of another country.

Ádám, 14

Upper Region

It is not good that Hungarians and Slovakians have been arguing for close to one hundred years.

Vivien, 15

Upper Region

I’m not an expert in politics, but I am sure that unless a governmental person lives in the territory, this kind of decision cannot be made.

Dávid, 15

Upper Region

Crucifixion of the Hungarian nation.

Tomi, 15

Upper Region

It would be just as strange if our territory was returned. The Slovakians who live here would feel like us today.

Noémi, 14

Upper Region

What comes to my mind? I just knuckle my hands.

Nándi, 17

Upper Region

It is the trial of our nation. It depends on us how we hold the field.

László, 17

Upper Region

Mutilation of the nation’s body.

Lilla, 15

Upper Region
